For Earth Day this year, a good way to help save the monarchs is to plant native milkweed. Earth Day is April 22. By planting milkweed for the monarch butterflies, you will be providing food for the monarch caterpillars. Milkweed is a host plant for the monarch butterfly. As a host plant, the monarch lays their eggs only on the milkweed leaves. A monarch caterpillar will only eat the leaves of a milkwood plant as their food source.

By planting milkweed plants or milkweed seeds on Earth Day 2022 you can help save and protect the monarch butterfly population. The monarch butterflies can only eat milkweed, and this is the only food source for them. I hope if you are planning an Earth Day event to celebrate our natural world that you will consider planting milkweed to help save the monarchs. The monarch butterfly population has been declining in recent years. Planting milkweed is a great way to celebrate and give back to our Earth.
